Avoid being left disappointed by your plumber with our handy guide for finding someone you can trust

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you are trying to find a reliable plumber. A quick Google search will pull up hundreds of options and it can be hard to decide who to call.

To make finding a plumber easier, here are some of our tips for finding someone you can trust.

Do they offer the services you need?

The first thing you need to check is do the plumbers you are looking at offer the services you need. Do they offer a full range of services, or do they just specialise, for example in new bathroom installations?

Are they available when you need them?

Plumbing emergencies are usually true emergencies. Burst pipes and blocked drains can very quickly cause significant damage and need to be dealt with safely and quickly by a professional. Check that your plumber offers a 24/7 emergency service so that you can know that they’ll be available should you ever need to make that panicked phone call.

Are they suitably licensed and qualified?

Plumbing is a specialist skill that needs to be done by suitably qualified professionals. Make sure your plumber is licensed and registered – in NSW, it’s an easy process to check online.

Is your plumber trustworthy?

Whenever you are letting a tradesperson into your home or premises, you need to feel comfortable that it is safe to do so. A great way to check that your plumber is trustworthy is by checking reviews online or by getting a recommendation from friends and family. If you are new to an area, local community groups on Facebook can be a great way to find a reliable plumber – just do some due diligence to check if people have actually used the services or if they’re recommending their mate.

Is your plumber fairly priced?

Price shouldn’t be your only consideration when you try to find a plumber – after all, we all know that cheap work done badly is costly in more ways than one – but equally, you want to feel comfortable that you’re not going to be ripped off. Before work starts, ask for a cost estimate or quote and make sure to ask what is included so you don’t get caught out by additional costs like cleaning fees or travel charges.
