Here’s 6 top trends to get you thinking

There’s no denying that renovating your bathroom is a big deal. Along with kitchens, bathrooms are one of the most costly rooms to renovate. So you want to make sure you get it right and not regret your choices.

There’s often a fine line to walk between creating a bathroom that is modern and on-trend, versus something that’s going to be dated in just a few short years. Thankfully, the latest bathroom trends certainly seem to prioritise functionality and many have a certain timelessness to them.

Trend 1: Big tiles

Large format tiles are incredibly popular right now. Firstly, it’s a highly practical option. Bigger tiles means less grout. And less grout means less chance for mould to take hold. Large format tiles can also create an impression of space by deceiving the eye.

Trend 2: Texture

Adding texture is a popular way to add interest to your bathroom. Different tile textures such as marble, terrazzo and granite can create different looks. Also popular is adding timber, with timber vanities and even engineered floorboards being seen in some bathrooms. Timber is also being seen in mirror frames and accessories, and even basins!

Trend 3: Geometric tiles

While square and rectangular tiles will always remain popular (and for good reason), geometric tiles are proving to be hot in 2017. Hexagonal tiles are an on-trend choice, and patterned textures on tiles are also a common way for this geometric trend to be expressed. Alternative ways of laying tiles, for example diagonals, mosaic style and random configurations are also popular.

Trend 4: Feature tapware

Selecting tapware that differs from the standard chrome is also a great way to add subtle interest to your bathroom. Hot choices in 2017 are matte black, as well as different metal finishes including brass, rose gold and copper tapware. Unlike other fixtures like tiles, making a bolder choice with tapware can easily be changed down the track too if you do start to feel like it dates your bathroom.

Trend 5: Wall hung vanities

A popular choice in Europe for many years, wall hung or floating vanities are increasingly being seen in Australian bathrooms now too. These are great for smaller bathrooms, creating an illusion of space by being less heavy in appearance. Floating vanities are also easy to clean around, making them both an attractive and practical choice.

Trend 6: Rimless toilets

Back-to-wall toilets have been the top pick for many years and this isn’t likely to change anytime soon, with hidden plumbing proving to be a far more aesthetically pleasing option. The hot trend in loos for 2017 is the growing number of rimless toilets on the market. A hot choice in Europe for many years, these toilets are now increasingly available in Australia. With a minimalistic look that is also easy to clean, rimless toilets address both practicality and appearance.
